Steelheads Honour Argos Legend/Support Charity

The Mississsauga Steelheads are known for wearing the jerseys of one famous Toronto sports franchise, basing their home and road since rebranding in 2012 heavily on the Maple Leafs. However this Sunday, the team opted for jerseys that closely resembled another Toronto sports franchise, one even older, for charity.

December 16th was Pinball Clemons Foundation Night. For those who don't know Michael "Pinball" Clemons is a former  CFL all star RB who played with the Toronto Argos during their Grey Cup Championship runs in 1990s. However he is likely more well known for his charity work for underprivileged kids, as his post-playing career has been spent mostly doing that and the occasional coaching position on his former team.

These jerseys are very similar to the Argo's current jerseys, right down to the script right above the numbers. For reference here are the Argos jerseys on the gridiron.

The usual Argos double blue has been changed to the Steelheads grey and navy, and rather than having the numbers on the shoulders as most football jerseys do, the team opted to copy the early Flying Vs, and put the numbers closer to the cuffs to make room for the Pinball Clemons Foundation logo as the shoulder patch. Note that these are based on the current Argos jerseys, not the ones Clemons actually wore during his career. Seeing as it was the 90s, it's understandable why the team wasn't clamouring to pull these out.

To fully embrace the football look, the Steelheads also put stripes on their helmets, similar to what some NCAA teams are known to do.

The jerseys are currently being auctioned off in support of the Pinball Clemons foundation on the Steelheads website. If you want to put in a bid, here's the link.
