Hershey Bears Unveil Outdoor Classic Jersey

The 2018 AHL Outdoor Classic is being held in Hershey, PE for the first time since 2013, when the Bears will take on the Leigh Valley Phantoms on January 20th of next year. The Bears today unveiled the jersey they will be wearing for that game. This is the second time the Phantoms & Bears will take each other on outdoors, the first time in 2012 when the then Adirondack Phantoms hosted the Bears.

The Bears drop the colour scheme they've had since the 2012-13 season, opting for the classic brown and white and throwback logo under the diagonal HERSHEY script. The 80th Anniversary & event logo adorn the shoulder yokes, which also feature a simple set of stripes.

For reference, the Bears were celebrating their 75th Anniversary last outdoor game, and went back further in the Bears' history, and yet still keeping things modern with white pants; something that hopefully will be left at home for this game.

One year earlier, the Bears & Phantom played at Citizen Bank Park in Philadelphia as the Flyers that year were taking on the Rangers in the 2012 Winter Classic. Both teams wore specialty jerseys, where the Phantoms rocked white versions of the Flyers jerseys, while the Bears wore a very simple design with a complex event logo.

It is unknown at this point if the Phantoms will be wearing a vintage jersey for the game, or their normal style away jersey. With the exception of the Toronto Marlies in 2013, if the home team is wearing a vintage jersey, just like in the NHL, the away team will do the same.

Love the placement of the skating bear with the diagonal script. Great way to innovate while building off tradition.
