Tuesday: HJC Season Finale

Hello readers! For the last time this is Ryan filling in on a Tuesday. We have brought on our new Tuesday writer, Ben S. His first post is scheduled to be next Tuesday and I think all of us writers are looking forward to it. Ben will bring his own perspective as well as his fandom for college hockey, as well as the NHL of course.

You could call today the Season Finale of HJC. Tomorrow is our Season Premiere and it will be worth coming by at 4:30pm Eastern time to check out Phil's post. We'll also have a couple of exciting announcements to make.

Currently happening right now on the blog is the AIHL ReDesign. You have until Friday, October 13 to get your entry in. That's just under two weeks, which gives you plenty of time to perfect your concepts.

COTW Sept 22-28 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
AIHL entries (due October 13 @ noon ET)

And now...the concepts!

Anaheim Ducks (Kevin D.)
This concept is not bad, however I find myself searching for things to like about it. There's nothing that I hate or anything, but then again there's nothing that I like. I'm not one of these people that thinks most jerseys NEED hem stripes, but I feel these do need hem stripes to match the arm stripes. I like that gold is used as a broader stripe here and I like that Kevin has used the original Ducks logo. I like the attempt to use more orange, but then again I think there is too much orange on the socks. Maybe orange yokes would help balance that out? It seems that I am uncertain about these concepts.

Anaheim Ducks (Alan H.)
I really love the arms stripes on this concept! The hem stripes seem to be drawn too steep to come off as one cohesive stripe. It very much looks like you drew one half and then mirrored it and attached the two halves. Just like Kevin did above, Alan has used the original logo which I think is far superior to the D-foot logo. Aside from the hem stripes and the Adidas wordmark, everything seems to be very well executed.

Columbus Blue Jackets (Justin B.)
Basing the jerseys off of the military uniform that the team sometimes claims to be named after has been tried before. In my opinion it does not work. It's a good idea in theory I just haven't seen it done well yet. The jerseys look cluttered with this pattern. Perhaps it could work if it was sublimated like the original horizontal stripes on the first Blue Jackets blue jersey? Execution wise, this looks good. I would say that the shoulder patches are too big and that the collar isn't accurate for NHL use. But I really don't want to stifle any creativity.

There you have it. Just three concepts today. The well is running dry. We need you guys and we need you now. So I challenge you guys to make a pink and blue jersey and make it awesome. Go now!
