Tuesday: Counting Down

Hello HJC Readers, for the second to last time on a Tuesday! Yes, the 10th will be my last Tuesday post. You can stop cheering, cancel the party. I'm not done, but there will be a bit of a day reshuffling accruing from that week on. I'm not going to go to much into it till next week, but I did want to bring it up.

I'm not going to go to much in depth on the TERRIBLE play call by Pete Carroll in Sunday's big game, because it isn't hockey, but I will tell you about my curse. For the last 6 years, every big game (football, trademarks and crap, can't say the name) the team that I wanted to win has lost. I'm seriously cursed. Last year was the worst loss I suffered with Denver getting demolished by Seattle, and this year was absolutely devastating. I seriously am cursed.

Another devastating loss is Jake Miller getting both of his concepts beaten out in the semifinals, when he could of had one or both of his concepts in the COTY finals. Voting turnout was good, so you guys obviously chose the winners fairly. I believe I was the one that nominated Christian's Nordiques concept, so I'm pretty stoked that it made it this far. Go vote! You can have a voice in the winner of Concept of the Year 2014!

COTY 2014 Final Vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
World Cup entries (due Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Coby: Florida Panthers

Coby makes this concept for a (fictional) Florida Panthers outdoor game at Doak Campell staidum. Besides from the fact that the panthers can't even fill their regular staidum, let alone a football one, an outdoor game wouldn't work in Florida. I like the logo choices, the Panther head and crossed "tree/stick" shoulder patch look good together. I'm not stoked on the recolring though. It's way to Arizona Coyotes for me, and if you could pick a worse color scheme, I would like to see.

Center Ice Design: Tampa Bay Lightning

Center Ice Design redesigns the Tampa Bay Lightning, our second Florida team featured today. He keeps somewhat of the same template, but curves the striping a little more and adds more black. I'm not into the shoulder yoke. The Lightning (imo) look way better in a simple template, which is why I,like their current jerseys so much. White gloves are a rare occurance (we saw them in the All Star Game last month) they don't look great, but they don't look bad. I would have to see them on the ice more to make any kind of judgement. The shade of white is a bit darker than the one used on the striping on the home jersey.

Phil: West Babylon Eagles

Former HJC writer and multi sport fan Phil Beck makes a pretty sick set of jerseys for his high school (if they had hockey). He uses a revised of the ECHL Colarado Eagles' logo with the initials of his school. This set of jerseys defenitley looks like something a high school team would wear. I like the expanded yoke that fleshes in with the arm striping. A solid job here, but I would rather have a blue jersey and a white one, instead of blue and yellow.

Ryan Haslett: LA Kings

Ryan does what everyone wanted to do, he let Reebok put all their silly stuff like the oversized TV numbers and hangar effects but still managed to come out with a pretty sweet design. He also used the "Burger King logo" which there were mixed opinions on but I personally would have loved to see since I was not old enough to remember anything when ye olde 90's alternate was in use. The purple looks fantastic. I'm not going to take points off for the oversized TV numbers, since Reebok will always be Reebok, but the jersey would still look better if they were shrunk. The LA ligature on the shoulder also looks swell. I wish the grey was a bit lighter so it could be more distinguished from the black and purple.

Dylan Alexander: All Star Game (2015)

Dylan keeps the lime green, but returns the blue/red to a "compromise" ASG jersey in the 4th of 4 all star game jerseys he made for this series. CCM should hire this guy, if not only to design their pants. They look fantastic! The green helmet loops and jersey ties are all a good touch. This jersey is still VERY modern and VERY new, but it actually looks like a decent jersey design and not a parasailing suit. Everything about this jersey is perfect, except the logo shoudl have a thin green outline.

9.9/10 and a COTW Nomination!

Jack: Minnesota Wild

Jack kicks around with vintage white for Minnisota, something a lot of people do. But the main focus of this concept is the alternate jersey. This would have fit perfectly with the NHL's pilot alternate jersey program in the 90's, a jersey world scattered with gradients. It wouldn't work today, as much as I don't mind (don't like, don't hate. Idek.) the design. I wouldn't want to see it on the ice. But it would defenitley make a good fan jersey. The home and away set are something I've seen a lot. And even if you didn't copy someone else's idea it still isn't very creative. STELLAR EXECUTION though.

Thanks for reading! Come back next Tuesday for my final post before the great HJC reshuffling of 2015! After that week, I will be writing on Sunday. More to come on that, but for now...

Please Remember to vote! It is for Concept of the Year, and we want your opinion!

Anyways, See you next week!

The color scheme was for the Florida State Seminoles, who play in Doak Campbell.
